ABS-CBN is trying to divert the public’s attention that the reason Wowowee host Willie Revillame rescinded his contract with the network is its failure to comply with its terms, particularly to provide him with a daily show and compensation equal to his pay in Wowowee.
Willie’s Wowowee show was arbitrarily replaced with Pilipinas Win Na Win with Kris Aquino and Robin Padilla as hosts on July 31. It did this despite final talk between Willie and top-ranking officers Charo Santos-Concio, Linggit Tan and Wowowee Business Unit Head Jay Montelibano that he’d return to the show on the same date. He was given a once-a-week show in the cable channel Studio 23. An offer Willie can refuse, for sure, he did not accept!
Except for issuing an official statement that Willie Revillame cannot “unilaterally invalidate” his talent agreement with ABS-CBN until Sept. 2011, the Kapamilya network did not challenge Willie’s revelations during his recent media conference at Annabel’s restaurant off Tomas Tomas Ave. This included that he was scheduled to return to Wowowee as host on July 31 until it was replaced with Pilipinas Win Na Win.
For the time being, Pilipinas Win Na Win is doing terrible. Starting with a high 22.9% on pilot days, it's now down to below 15%, the same rating level it took over when Luis Manzano was Wowowee special guest host. With its introduction of a movie pre-program for a competitor Eat...Bulaga! Allowed GMA7 to retake leadership of the noontime weekday slot. It lost this when Wowowee was the Kapamilya network’s flagship. That’s why it’s panicking.
