'Pilipinas Got Talent 2' grand champ

Caviteño dual-voice singer Marcelito Pomoy was stunned over winning the “Pilipinas Got Talent” season two grand champ title on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

“Sobrang saya ko po. Natulala po ako, parang wala po akong reaksyon talaga. Parang wala lang po. Nagulat po ako!” Pomoy said in a post-competition interview aired on “Umagang Kay Ganda” on June 27.

Pomoy and 13 other finalists battled it out for the grand champion title on Saturday, June 25, at the Araneta Coliseum. The announcement of the winner, as well as the first and second runners up, was done the following evening at the same venue. Pomoy was followed by tap dancing duo Happy Feet and hip hop dance group Freestylers in first and second place, respectively.

Even before his triumph, Pomoy was already one of “PGT2” viewers’ and YouTube favorites due to his ability to effortlessly switch from male to female singing voices in the same song.

“PGT” judge Freddie M. Garcia (FMG) only has words of praises for Pomoy.

“Marcelito is really amazing. I have never seen a guy who could sing perfect pitch for a man and a woman,” he said.

Present during finals night was Fremantle Asia Chief Executive Officer Patrick Schulte who was awed by Pomoy’s unique performance.

“When I saw him perform after they announce the winner I thought, ‘Wow.’ Quite incredible,” said Schulte of Pomoy's finale piece, "The Prayer," originally a duet by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.

On the other hand, FMG’s fellow “PGT” judge Ai Ai delas Alas believes that “any dun sa top three ay deserving.”

“Pagaling ng pagaling ang mga contestants, hindi mo alam [kung] bakit at sa’n nanggagaling. Ang huhusay,” the comedienne added.

In "The Buzz" episode aired on Sunday afternoon, third "PGT" judge Kris Aquino in a taped interview expressed pride over the finalists as they proved that all of them "were so deserving to perform in Araneta Coliseum and to be part of ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ grand finals."

A separate report by abs-cbnnews.com on June 27 said that Pomoy got 19.56 % of the overall text votes, a little over 1% more than Happy Feet who received 18.32 %. Meanwhile, Freestylers was far behind with 9.46 %.

Pomoy is the second singer to win the “PGT” grand champ title. He was preceded by Jovit Baldovino, whose voice has an uncanny resemblance to that of Journey frontman Arnel Pineda’s.

Pomoy's cash prize was 2 million pesos.
